Burt will always be remembered for his leadership and innovation in the broadcast community as demonstrated during his years as President / Owner of WROV: 1955 - 1989. He continued to work as a broadcast consultant afterward, most recently in marketing and development for WVTF.
He lived a rich life, and believed firmly in the goodness of all people, as demonstrated through his community service activities. He was a unifying force in the community and an active member of numerous religious, civic and professional organizations.
Burt's motto was "What's obvious isn't" and he is said to have always carried with him in his wallet a tattered piece of paper recounting the words of a Chassidic rabbi on his death bed -- to the effect that as a young man he had set out to change the world. Then, as he aged, he scaled it down to his state, the town, and then the family. As a dying man he realized he should have started with himself, and then might have had a chance with family, town, state, and maybe even the world.
Thanks, Burt, for those lasting words to live by.
