I, like most living critters with a fading memory, do have memories from the WROV days. But there can be no doubt that the major memory most have of me was the result of the 5-year relationship between "Jan Wilkins & Ralph Peck." To this day certain persons of certain senior status will approach me in public places and launch into a failed attempt to sell used cars "Our Way!" This was, of course, a commercial enterprise for a station sponsor....but it evolved into a genuine example of 'personality' on parade.
Working behind the scenes at the station pretty-much meant that I, as "Operations-Creative Services Director" (fancy name they gave me when offering me a job in 1962) had a hand in nearly all of the on-air promotions and contests and nonsense that accompanied our periodic 'think tank' meetings that often included many different jocks, Burt, Bernie, Don Foutz, even Muriel.
We used to have summer picnics and I (no surprise) was elected "organizer". The best one I recall was at Loch Haven when Muriel and I prepared a meal on the tailgate of the official 1960 WROV Company car Buick station wagon. We burned a bunch of paint off the back end of the vehicle whilst making hamburgers on an improvised grill. Muriel laughed. Her husband did not.
Well, anyway, I could (but shouldn't) spend hours typing stuff here. Next time we get together, bring a personal recording device (PRD??) and allow me to ramble. Then you get stuck with the editing!!!
Editor's note: we will!!!
