Starr Stevens with J. Michael in 2006

We recently caught up with J. Michael, now in the Norfolk, VA area where he's done a talk show as "Pat Murphy" on various stations for the last few years. We asked him about the rumor that, during his WROV years, he always carried around a briefcase and told people that it contaied papers that "proved that he was insane." His response:

Jesus, what a story. Briefcase? papers? I don't recall even having a briefcase when I worked at WROV. I always carried my papers, on my person, not in a briefcase. It would be too easy to lose a brifecase. I was insane, not stupid!

I will admit that I did walk over the front desk often and would have a coffee break type conference in the closet. I have no recollection as to why I did this, but then the voices in my head, haven't been talking to me since I divorced the last wife. They liked her. They would be the ones who could best relate why I did this. When they start talking to me again, I'll be happy to relate their logic concerning this issue. I seeem to recall something about the "Royal Kings" at the Kings Inn being after me for some reason.

I hope this clears up any confusion that those nasty radio gossips started, concerning my professional conduct, during my tenure at WROV.

You'd think that something as innocent as walking over the receptionist's desk and relaxing in the closet would be ignored and forgotten!

Does anyone remember the guy who did all-nights, during the time I did Mornings? I think that was in the 1974 era. (that I did mornings) He always wore a trench coat both on and off the air. I'm pretty sure he had on pants, but I never asked to see.
